Art lovers are in for a treat this February in Budapest. From thought-provoking photography and multidisciplinary exhibitions to vibrant international cinema, the city offers inspiring cultural experiences — all completely free of charge.
Looking for inspiring cultural programs without spending a forint? February in Budapest proves that world-class art, photography and cinema can be enjoyed completely free. Here are three exciting events to add to your calendar this month.
1. “I See You, Budapest!” – Photo Exhibition at Eötvös 10 (Until 28 February)
Budapest can be seen in countless ways — and this exhibition shows how those who live here truly experience the city.
“I See You, Budapest!” is a photography exhibition realised as a continuation of the Architecture Night initiative, supported by the Municipality of Terézváros and hosted at Eötvös 10 Cultural Centre. The exhibition presents two parallel selections in dialogue with each other.
The first section features the 50 best works from an architectural photography competition, showcasing the capital through the eyes of residents and creators. The images were selected by photographers Dr. Luca Göbölyös and Tamás Dobos.
The second part, titled “The City as I See It,” presents well-known Hungarian public figures sharing their personal Budapest stories through a single photograph. Among the participants are musicians, actors, writers and media personalities including Dorka Gryllus, Eszter Ónodi, Andrea Szulák and many others.
The aim of the exhibition is to present Budapest’s built environment from a human, personal perspective — the city we inhabit, use and rediscover every day.

2. Essentia Artis IV – Exhibition & Art Series at Pesti Vigadó (From 28 February)
At the end of February, the prestigious Essentia Artis exhibition and event series opens its fourth edition at the iconic Pesti Vigadó.
Organised by the Hungarian Academy of Arts (MMA), the program showcases artists who completed their artistic scholarships in 2025. Running from 28 February to 9 May 2026, the event features nearly forty programs and five thematic days — more than ever before.
The exhibition and accompanying programs cover a wide range of artistic fields, including architecture, film and photography, literature, applied and design arts, fine arts, folk art, theatre, music and art theory.
You can expect:
- behind-the-scenes film talks,
- photography workshops,
- craft presentations,
- instrument demonstrations,
- and large-scale concerts.
Most programs are free of charge (with the exception of a few musical events), but prior registration is required. Those attending thematic programs can also visit the exhibition free of charge on the same day.

3. Indian Film Festival Budapest (27 February – 1 March)
Indian cinema returns to Budapest with colour, emotion and powerful storytelling.
The Indian Film Festival, organised by the Embassy of India in Budapest, takes place from 27 February to 1 March 2026 at the Metropolis Hall of Puskin Cinema. After the success of previous editions, the festival once again brings a dynamic selection of contemporary and award-winning Indian films to Hungarian audiences.
From visually spectacular productions to inspiring real-life stories and socially sensitive dramas, the program highlights India’s cultural diversity and cinematic excellence.
