After the hugely successful Zsolnay exhibition, which attracted tens of thousands of visitors, Virág Judit Gallery in Budapest is now opening a thoroughly contemporary, postmodern exhibition.
Rare modern porcelain wonders are arriving at Virág Judit Gallery. Unique, hand-painted ceramics by members of the DeForma Group will be presented to the public between May 28 and June 27. These works are both works of art and luxury home furnishings, revealing the essence of contemporary Hungarian craftsmanship to the visitor.
After the hugely successful Zsolnay exhibition, which attracted tens of thousands of visitors, Virág Judit Gallery is now opening a thoroughly contemporary, postmodern exhibition. The exhibition titled FormabontóDeForma, starting on May 28, offers a unique selection of the most exciting works of the DeForma Group, and the exhibited objects can even be purchased.
The DeForma Group, a group of ceramic artists and applied artists, was founded in 1993 and its members have been working together for 33 years. The community is internationally recognized in the world of design, having won several awards and recognitions over the decades. In their art, the elegance and aristocratic quality of early art deco are mixed with free, modern form.
The exhibiting artists of the DeForma group are: Pálma Babos, Monika Bedécs, Olga Benedek, Sándor Dobány, Éva Kádasi, Judit Turcsányi and Judit Vida.
At the exhibition, visitors can purchase decorative and modern everyday objects, tea and coffee sets, and fantasy dishes. The hand-painted works, each worth hundreds of thousands of forints, can be artistic decorations for any home. Some of the ceramics - similar to Zsolnay porcelain - were made using the factory's secret technology and a high-fire process.
“We love unconventional, modern solutions and high quality. These come together in the works of the DeForma Group. After the timeless wonders of the turn-of-the-century Zsolnay exhibition, the gallery’s exhibition spaces are now home to contemporary artisan artists, and we welcome the works of the group’s members. Once again, our visitors can see something that is unique and eye-catching,” said Anna Kelen, art historian at the Virág Judit Gallery.
The exhibition can be viewed between May 28 and June 27, 2026 at the Virág Judit Gallery (1055 Budapest Falk Miksa utca 30.)
