Budapest’s public bike-sharing system has entered a new era. The revamped MOL Bubi officially launched on August 3, bringing brand-new classic bicycles and electric-assist bikes to the streets of the capital, together with a new app and updated pricing.

The new system is designed to make getting around Budapest on two wheels easier and more convenient, whether you are a local commuter or a visitor looking for an alternative to public transport.

MOL Bubi is Budapest’s public bike-sharing service, operated as part of the city’s urban transport network. Instead of renting a bicycle for an entire day, users can pick up a bike at one of the MOL Bubi docking stations, ride to their destination and return the bike at another station. This makes the service particularly useful for short trips around the city and for connecting to other forms of public transport.

The system now includes both traditional bicycles and electric-assist bikes, giving users more choice when navigating Budapest's sometimes hilly streets. MOL Bubi stations are spread throughout the city, and the bikes can be located through the MOL Bubi app as well as BudapestGO.

MOL BUBIThe revamped MOL Bubi system introduces a completely new fleet of bicycles. Among the features highlighted during the testing phase were the new electric-assist bikes, easier saddle adjustment and a faster locking mechanism.

The service also comes with a new MOL Bubi mobile app, which allows users to find nearby stations, check bicycle availability and unlock bikes.

To start riding, users need to download the new MOL Bubi app, register with a phone number and add a bank card. Once registered, they can locate an available bicycle, scan the QR code on its frame and unlock it.

BudapestGO users can get a discounted pass

The new MOL Bubi system is also more closely integrated with Budapest's public transport system.

Anyone with a valid monthly or longer-term Budapest public transport pass in the BudapestGO app (available for Android and IOS)  can purchase a MOL Bubi Monthly or Annual Pass for classic bicycles at a discounted price.

To receive the discount, users should register for MOL Bubi with the same email address they use in BudapestGO.

BudapestGO can also now display MOL Bubi stations and the number of available bicycles, making it easier to combine cycling with buses, trams, the metro and other forms of public transportation.

Those without a qualifying BudapestGO pass can still purchase a regular MOL Bubi pass or use the bikes on a pay-as-you-go basis.

2. Register in the app

•          To register, you’ll need a phone number where we can send the verification code.
Important: If you’d like to take advantage of the discount associated with your valid BudapestGO pass, please use the same email address in the MOL Bubi app as you do in BudapestGO.

•          Fill in your details and register your bankcard
 
3. If you have a valid pass in the BudapestGO app, you are eligible for a discounted monthly or annual MOL Bubi Pass for classic bikes. (If you don’t have a pass in BudapestGO, you can choose the MOL Bubi Pass type that suits you best, or use the service on a pay-as-you-go basis.)
