According to Budapest Transport Center (BKK)'s proposal, nearly 70 night buses providing greater coverage than before would ensure better connections and more convenient and faster access to any part of Budapest at night.
The forums on the restructuring of the night network, which aimed to make the renewed night transport ideal for as many Budapest residents as possible, have concluded, the Budapest Transport Center (BKK) told MTI on Tuesday.
In their announcement, they wrote that nearly two hundred people participated in the in-person and online forums on the restructuring of the night public transport network, where they could ask questions live to BKK experts.
According to the company's proposal, nearly 70 night buses providing greater coverage than before would ensure better connections and more convenient and faster access to any part of Budapest at night.
There are still a number of steps to be taken before the final network is established, including processing the proposals received, modifying the plans accordingly, consulting with experts, preparing timetables, and informing drivers and passengers, according to the announcement.
BKK announced that the biggest innovation of the proposed network is that, in addition to a timetable tailored to nighttime needs, 28 services will run day and night in the future, following daytime numbering and routes.
For example, passengers on buses 105 and 114 will be able to travel at 2 a.m. and 2 p.m. on familiar routes with buses stopping at familiar stops.
According to the company's proposal, surface rail service would also be expanded on weekend nights, including on tram lines 1 and 47, and trams marked 17A would also run all night on shorter routes.
The new network, which will be developed by experts taking into account the comments received, will provide much greater coverage than before (e.g., Budafok, Zugliget, Virányos, Rákospalota, Megyer) and faster access to the outer districts (Rákoskert, Rákoscsaba, and Pécel).
According to the proposal, the range of services operating based on passenger traffic demand would also be expanded, they said.
