Wicked in Budapest: One of The World's Favorite Musicals Comes to Hungary
The world-famous musical Wicked is set to make its Hungarian debut at the Erkel Theatre. It will be presented by the theatre in the 2026/27 season.

The Erkel Theatre is a theatre in Budapest, Hungary. Being the largest public building in the city for decades (and the largest theatre in the city), it was made part of the Hungarian State Opera House in 1951. Erkel Theatre was rebuilt between 1961 and 1962, but was closed forty-five years later for technical reasons. Since March 1, 2013, it has operated as a chamber theater of the Opera House. It operates as an independent theater from 2025. The renewed theater aims to address the audience with an independent image, its own productions and a contemporary theatrical approach. The Erkel Theater wants to become the number one home for musicals, where more than 1,800 spectators can be entertained night after night.
