New World Music Venue Opens in Budapest: Welcome to Babel Kertem
Babel Kertem, which is set to open soon, awaits everyone in Budapest with themed weeks, an outdoor cinema, a dance hall and, of course, exciting concerts.
A “new Babylon is being built” in Budapest. The Kertem beer garden, which has been iconic for 18 years, and the internationally renowned Babel community are merging under the name Babel Kertem. It is not a simple fusion, but a shared change of perspective: the peace and pulsation of the garden meet the Babel desire for knowledge, to the call of live music.
Kertem is an unadulterated Budapest cult story: from Liget to Kőbánya, where it took root, the audience became a community. It is not a place, but a jointly cultivated atmosphere – an urban oasis cultivated by fairy lights, Balkan burgers, music and fröccs. And Babel believes: world music is a relationship-building stance, a message spanning countries in the chaos of Babel.
The Babel Kertem in Kőbánya is a stage that fills a gap. The beat generation started from the neighboring Törekvés Klub, and now a new endeavor is taking place here: to provide a professional stage for non-mainstream, creative bands, playing in front of a community of up to 1,000 people. From the beginning of May to the end of September, in addition to the leading Hungarian world music scene, foreign bands rarely heard in Hungary will perform, who have so far mainly been present at European festivals. Bábel continues to build every night when you enter the garden.
